un-productivity

Fri Nov 2, 2007, 9:13 PM
So you may have noticed, its been a long time since I've posted anything... its been about just as long of a time since I've actually finished anything sadly. I may post a cell phone picture I took of my work in progress to my scraps... but I have yet to have a completed project this semester which sucks. Its official that I am never again allowed to take the summer off from painting because of work. Never again will I work 7 days a week for that matter... It has taken me from the beginning of the semester until now to even remember what I was thinking about and where I was at in May. Oy Vey

A new turn

Tue Jun 12, 2007, 10:30 PM
I sold my first painting today for $100... I have to say I have mixed feelings about it. I'm very happy to know that someone else appreciates it and likes it well enough to pay money for it. I'm also very happy to have $80 in my pocket (20% goes to the providers of the display space as per usual gallery practice). However a part of me is sad, because I know that they probably could never appreciate it the same way that I do. I know every little bit of history that went into the conception and creation of that painting. I've seen paintings sit out at garage sales, unwanted for a dollar a piece, and I worry that someday that will be my painting. I hope not, I hope that its new owners will keep it well. I'll probably never know, I didn't get to speak with the buyer in person. Maybe they'll come by the shop and say hello one day while I'm working. That would be nice. One customer the other day who also paints likened the relationship between painter and painting to that of a parent and child. I think I understand that comparison a little more now. Although seeing a painting go out the door is nowhere near as complicated or as in depth as seeing a person go out the door. I'm a little glad for that.

challenge

Mon Aug 28, 2006, 8:39 PM
So it was suggested to me to do this challenge.... so I think i'm gonna go for it... who knows how long it will take me to do, but I think it can help me work through some things that I've been having problems with. If nothing else, it will act as inspiration in my painting class this semester since I really dont like the prof.

Could it be? me! the anti-modern art girl! has gotten into abstract art O.O *gasp* yes its true... i have found that I actually enjoy abstract art. After going to the national gallery of art in d.c. and enjoying the dada exhibit more than the dutch masters exhibit, I have to say that I am beginning to enjoy modern art. I have a few abstract pieces from class that I should have pictures of soon to upload so you guys can see what I've been up to :)

I cannot explain my outrage... I found stolen art on someone's myspace profile... I recognized it from a print account i had browsed months ago on here, but the person who was using it was not the owner of the print account. They posted it as their default picture with no credits given to the creator of the picture. I can't understand stuff like this, it just makes my blood boil to think that someone could be so rude. Of course its some 15 year old idiot from somewhere in maryland that stole the art.
